Family Counseling Services Orlando
Family Counseling Services Orlando is a type of therapy directed to helping the entire family. It seeks to improve the communication and to resolve conflicts that arise among the family members. Family Counseling Services are short term and includes all family members. Those members committed will attend. Therapy is most often short term. The therapist is able to move quickly with all of the members at one time. Sometimes it will include all of the members and other times just those that are willing at the time to participate.
Therapy is specific according to the individual needs of the family and their unique style of communicating. Approaches that work well are Strategic Family Therapy and Structural Therapy. Through these modalities I am able to jump right in and become a member of the family system. Just by having that other person outside of the direct family, I am able to shift perspective, help point out areas that go unnoticed in day to day behaviors.
Bringing in new awareness’s and mindfulness to each member. Therapy teaches the skills needed to deepen the connections and ties of each member. Through stressful situations, the family can learn to take it all in stride and to not fall apart.

There may be a family member that will need more intensive therapy as it relates to a psychiatric illness such as depression, OCD, Workaholic, Perfectionism, Schizophrenia, Bipolar, etc, The family may continue to seek family therapy as well as in conjunction with other modalities or types of mental health treatment. What Not To Expect
- Do not expect your children to jump up and down in excitement at the thought of therapy. There will be resistant most cases. Don’t wait till your pulling up to the office to spring this on them. By doing this it will only make them close up and resentful. Talk to them first about how each member can benefit from attending. If you see that they are very resistant, consider children or teen counseling first so that they can trust me and warm up to the process.
- Do not expect that after one session, the family will start working on the behaviors identified in session. This may take some time and you will be met with resistance. Nothing is worse than having your spouse or parent remind you to practice what was learned in session. Give it some time. You will be met with resistance if you try to force other members to respond a different way. Check your codependency at the door.
- Give yourself the time to work on yourself. Get into alignment with what you need to do as part of the system. The only actions you can control are your own.
